Athenry FC

Athenry FC is a Galway soccer football club that was formed in 1971. The first match played by the club was a 1-1 draw with West United in South Park. The first goal scored by an Athenry FC player was scored by David Sweeney. Currently the club supports 17 individual teams and various teams have won over 25 separate titles. A number of Athenry players have been capped at underage level for Ireland, played in the League of Ireland, and two have played in England for Oldham Athletic and Wolves.

Athenry is one of the most progressive football clubs in the country and has built up very impressive facilities over the years. These facilities include, three full sized grass pitches, one 3/4 length grass training pitch, and a 3/4 length floodlit all weather pitch. These football pitches are located in Moanbaun and Raheen. The club house has a modern fully equipped gym with a gym instructor, a sauna, four large dressing rooms, two small dressing rooms, and meeting rooms. The all weather pitch can be booked and the gym is open for membership.
