Brian Mooney - Introduction
Brian Mooney was born in Dublin on 2 February 1966. A winger, Mooney followed a similar path to Anfield as fellow Dubliner Ronnie Whelan did. He signed for Joe Fagan's highly successful Liverpool team from the famous Dublin football club Home Farm in august 1983 for a transfer fee of £20,000.

Brian Mooney made his Liverpool debut on 7 October 1986 against Fulham. He came on as a second half substitute for Jim Beglin in the second round of the League Cup at Craven Cottage in London. Liverpool won the match through goals from Steve McMahon, an own goal by Fulham's Paul Parker, and Jan Molby.
This was Brian Mooney's one and only appearance for the Anfield Road club. He subsequently went out on loan to Welsh club Wrexham.
Unable to make a breakthrough into the Liverpool first team he was sold to Preston North End in October 1987 for a transfer fee of £80,000.

Brian Mooney played for the Republic of Ireland at under-21 level but he never earned a full international cap for his country.
