David Byrne - Introduction
David Byrne was born in Ringsend, Dublin on 28 April 1906. Byrne was a striker that played for the Dublin Football club, Shamrock Rovers. He had won many domestic honours including League titles and FAI Cup medals, as well as being top scorer in the League in 1927. He transferred to Manchester United for the 1933/34 season while United was in the old Second Division.

David Byrne made his Manchester United debut on 21 October 1933 against Bury at Gigg Lane. Byrne's scored a goal on his debut but unfortunately it was not enough as United lost the match 2-1. Despite scoring on his debut Byrne only made three more appearances for United that season.
It was a difficult season for United, during which manager Scott Duncan struggled to keep United out of the relegation zone. David Byrne's last match for Manchester United was on 30 December 1933 in a 0-3 defeat to Plymouth Argyle at Old Trafford.
His last goal for the Reds was United's second goal in a 7-3 loss at Grimsby Town.
