Ashbourne United FC

Ashbourne United FC was founded in 1978 and the club’s inaugural match was against a team made up of newly moved-in residents in the town. Ashbourne United’s first competitive season was in the 1979/80 season. The first competitive match was a 6-2 victory over Stoneybatter on the 1st September in the, now, Leinster Football League.

Following a few years in the Leinster Football League, Ashbourne United transferred over to the Athletic Union League (AUL) for the 1986/87 season. In the 1990/91 season the club captured it’s first silverware when it won the Sunday Division 3A league and won the Frank Roe Cup. Ashbourne United remains in the AUL to this day.

The club’s first schoolboy team entered the U13F Dublin District Schoolboys League (DDSL) for the season 1986/1987. The team was and instant success and won the division at the first attempt beating Ayrfield in a play-off. Over time further under age teams were formed and all played in the DDSL. The club made a policy decision to switch all under age teams from the DDSL to the NEC and this was completed by 1995. Subsequently all of the Ashbourne United under age teams switched yet again from the NEC to the North Dublin Schoolboys / girls League for the 1999/00 season.
