Clonmany Shamrocks FC |
Clonmany Shamrocks FC is a County Donegal soccer club competing in the Inishowen Football League. The Club’s home ground is at Shamrock Park. Clonmany Shamrocks FC is one of the longest serving organisations in the parish.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s the club played home matches at Peter’s Field in Cleagh, and latterly at Station Field near the Station House in Cleagh. Following significant fund raising and generous donations from many quarters Shamrock park was officially opened in August 1981. The first soccer game played on the new football pitch was between Sligo Rovers and an Inishowen Select team. The club later developed dressing rooms, showers and a shelter was erected at the side of the pitch for Clonmany Shamrock supporters. The off-pitch achievements of the committee were matched by the success of the club on the football pitch. Perhaps their finest hour was in 1995 when the team, managed by Willie Gill, won the premier league, the top four cup and the league cup. |
