Liffey Wanders, one of the oldest soccer clubs in Dublin, was formed in 1885. Many generations of the same family have played for the club over the decades. On a number of occasions the football club came close to extinction but every time it was rescued by dedicated club volunteers. Over the years Liffeys recruited many ex-schoolboy footballers from Pearse Rangers.

Pearse Rangers was originally established in the 1930’s and enjoyed great success on the soccer pitch culminating in 1960 when the football cub won the FAI Junior Cup and the AUL Division 1. Some time after this the club went out of existence only to be re-formed in 1988 to provide a schoolboy football club for the local area. The club built up it’s membership to such an extent that it it was ultimately able to field 10 teams ranging in ages from seven to 17.

The amalgamation of both clubs creates an outlet for the Pearse players when they finish at schoolboy level and it provides a steady supply of soccer talent for Liffeys.
