Republic of Ireland Football Team Fixtures & Results for 2014The Republic of Ireland began 2014 with a friendly match against Serbia at the Aviva Stadium in early March. Unfortunately for the new Irish management team of Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane Ireland lost this match, and the next match against Turkey. In Ireland’s first competitive match under Martin O’Neill the Irish registered a 2-1 win in Tblisi over Georgia in the first match of the 2016 Euro qualifiers. Everton’s Aiden McGeady scored two goals, his fourth and fifth for the Republic, to secure all three points for the Irish. The stunning winning goal came in the last minute of a tight match. In the second match of the Euro 2016 qualifiers Ireland just fell short of equalling it’s highest ever winning margin (8-0 over Malta in 1983) when they dismissed football minnows Gibraltar 7-0 at the Aviva Stadium. It was also a match in which Robbie Keane scored his third hat trick for the Republic. No other Irish player has ever scored three hat tricks at international level. Ireland followed up three days later with a very creditable 1-1 draw away to the reigning world champions, Germany. An injury time goal from stand-in captain John O’Shea secured the valuable way point. O’Shea won his 100th cap in this match. Following a disappointing loss to Scotland in a 2016 Euro qualifier four days earlier The Irish finished off 2014 with a 4-1 win over the USA in a friendly at the Aviva Stadium. This was a match in which Irish manager Martin O’Neill took the opportunity to give debuts to Cyrus Christie and David McGoldrick. Republic of Ireland Match Fixtures & Results for 2014
