Republic of Ireland v Kazakhstan Football Results

The Republic of Ireland has played Kazakhstan twice in the past and, as might be expected, the Irish have a 100% record against the relative minnows of European international football. As a former part of the USSR there were no opportunities to play Kazakhstan before the break up of that global power bloc.

The first match between the two nations was played on 7th September 2012 during the 2014 World cup qualifying campaign. Giovanni Trapattoni was the Republic of Ireland manager for the first eight matches of this Irish qualifying campaign.

Despite Kazakhstan’s lowly World ranking the former Soviet state took the lead in the match in the 38th minute courtesy of Nurdauletov. It took a last minute penalty from Robbie Keane and an injury-time volley from Kevin Doyle for Ireland to secure the win and the three points.

The second meeting between the two countries occurred on the 15th of October in 2013 in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin in Group C of the 2014 World Cup Qualifying group. Yet again the Kazakhs took the lead in the match through a stunning strike by Dmitriy Shomko.

As in the first match between the two teams, it took a Robbie Keane penalty to pull the sides level. A goal from centre-half John O’Shea gave the Irish the lead and an own goal from Shomko sealed the victory for the Irish.
