2010 First Division Match Results – Airtricity League Week 3

The results for the third series of matches in the Airtricity League of Ireland First Division are detailed below.

Cork City Foras Co-op won their second point of the season when they were held to a 1-1 draw by an Athlone Town side that had two players red carded.

While there were still 22 players on the pitch the Shannonsiders took the lead in the 37th minute. A poor clearance by Cork was latched on to by Gareth Kenna whose attempted cross ended up in the back of the Cork net. 1-0 to Athlone Town.

A mere five minutes later and Cork City had equalised from the penalty spot. A shove by Athlone’s Des Hope on Davin O’Neill was spotted by referee Rodgers. Despite diving the right way and getting a hand to the spot kick Athlone Town keeper, Chris Bennion, couldn’t keep out O’Neill’s shot. The teams went in at half time on level terms. That was the end of the scoring but there were two sendings-off in the second half. Des Hope was sent off after 81 minutes when he picked up his second yellow card for a foul on Cork City’s Shane Duggan. In injury time Kevin Williamson earned a second yellow card for a trip on O’Neill.
