Askeaton AFC |
| Formed in 1954, Askeaton AFC is a soccer club based in County Limerick. The local rugby club donated a set of their own red and black coloured jerseys to the new soccer club. The club continues to wear red and black to the present day. In a friendly Askeaton played Newcastle United FC in their first match at Purtills Field, Church Street losing by the odd goal in three.
Over the years Askeaton AFC have entered teams in the Limerick City League, Desmond District League and the Limerick County Schoolboys League. The club has won many trophies at a range of levels in the different leagues. The club has also performed very well at provincial level. On two occasions reaching the semi finals of the Munster Youths Cup and were finalists once in the Munster Junior Cup. In recent years Askeaton AFC have been placing a lot of emphasis on developing the club at schoolboy level making major investments annually in order to build a solid platform for future success.
