Ballingarry AFC |
| Ballingarry AFC is a County Limerick soccer club that was officially founded in February 1984. Soccer teams had represented Ballingarry informally since the ’60’s. In 1974 an U12’s team from the area came third in the Community Games. The core of this team went on to form the nucleus of the club after it launched in ’84.
At the inaugural club meeting it was decided that the club would enter a team in the Limerick Desmond League for the 84/85 football season. It was also decided at that meeting that the club teams would wear yellow and green. The club’s first home ground, Canons Field, was used for a few matches but the club quickly moved to a pitch at the rear of the Grove. Ballingarry AFC played it’s first competitive match in Division 2B against Askeaton AFC in September 1984. Ballingarry won that match 4-3. In 1993 the club suffered the ignominy of relegation but Ballingarry bounced back and reached a pinnacle when the club became champions of the Desmond League in 2004. The club owns a modern all weather soccer facility with a floodlit synthetic pitch measuring 50 metres x 22 metres. The facility also includes a clubhouse with dressing rooms, showers and ample car parking. It is available to hire by the hour – by calling Seamus Burke at 087 9965745. |
